- API: 4Q 2011 US oil well completions top year-earlier total
US oil drilling in fourth-quarter 2011 was up from a year earlier, the American Petroleum Institute said in its latest quarterly well completion report.
- US drilling rig count unchanged at 2,008 units
US oil and gas drilling rig activity this week remained unchanged at 2,008 total rigs working. The rig count for the week ended Jan. 27 was up by 276, however, from the comparable period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.
- Judge calls for BP to indemnify Transocean in 2010 gulf oil spill
BP PLC is required to indemnify drilling contractor Transocean Ltd., the owner of the Deepwater Horizon semisubmersible drilling rig, against compensatory damages in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill off Louisiana in 2010, according to US District Judge Carl Barbier of New Orleans.
- Energen pursuing Permian basin liquids plays
Energen Resources Corp., Birmingham, Ala., said it replaced its 2011 production and added 20% to its proved reserves for a yearend total of 343 million bbl of oil equivalent.
- Essar touts its CBM reserves, resources in India
Essar Energy PLC said it has greatly expanded proved and probable reserves at its 500 sq km Raniganj coalbed methane exploration block in West Bengal and that the company has India’s most expansive CBM acreage with 10 tcf of gas resources across five blocks.
